Assigning automatically
Rather than assigning every unassigned room by hand, Auto-assign proposes a full set of assignments for a day, lets you review the workload before anything is written, and only commits once you say so.
Open it from the Auto-assign button on the Housekeeping board (requires the Housekeeping (update) permission).

Step 1 — pick a strategy

Auto-assign always proposes exactly one maid per task — pairing two maids on one room is a deliberate manual decision, not something this dialog will do for you.
Step 2 — preview
Clicking Preview asks the server to work out a proposal for the day. Nothing is written at this point — the preview is read-only, and you can go Back to try a different strategy without any consequence.
Auto-assign preview
The preview shows two tables:
- Workload per maid — each maid's proposed task count and credits, out of her maximum (see Settings → Assignment). A maid pushed over her limit gets an Over capacity badge.
- Proposed assignments — each room, the maid it would go to, and the credits, with the same over-capacity badge where it applies.
A totals line reads "{proposed} of {tasks} services · {candidates} maids" so you can see at a glance how much of the day's work the proposal actually covers.
When there is nothing to propose
The preview step can come back with an explanation instead of a table — these are normal outcomes, not errors:

| Nobody rostered for the day | "Nobody is rostered for this date" — with the employee count and how many are on shift. Assign by hand, or add shifts first. Auto-assign reads who is actually on shift from Shift Plan; a property without a roster in use gets manual assignment only. |
| Everything is already assigned | "Nothing left to assign" — every service today already has a maid. |
Step 3 — apply
Assign commits the proposal. A summary screen confirms how many services were assigned, and — separately — how many were left untouched, with the reason for each:

| Set by hand | The task's plan or assignment was edited manually and is protected from being overwritten. |
| Already under way | The task has already started, finished, or been inspected. |
The note above that list says it plainly: these were protected, not failed — somebody had already made a decision about them, and auto-assign respects it rather than overwriting it.
