Departments, types & settings
Route: /shiftplan?tab=settings
The Settings tab is where an administrator sets up the building blocks the rest of the module uses: the departments people belong to, the kinds of staff you employ, the places they work, the shifts they can be put on, how many you need per shift, your public holidays, and who belongs to which department. Changes here take effect across the Roster, Team, and Report.
The Shift Plan Settings tab with departments, employee types, work locations, shift types and the required-staff matrix
Departments
The coloured groups staff are organised into (for example Guides, Boat Crew, Housekeeping). For each department set a name and a colour (used for that team's chips and avatars across the module). The row shows how many members it has; a department can only be deleted once it has no members. Add a new one with a name, colour, and Add.
Employee types
The list of staff types offered by the Type field on a person's profile (for example Guide, Reception, Cook). Add, rename, or remove types here — this is the single place that list is maintained, and it feeds the Type picker on every staff record.
Note: Renaming or removing a type does not change the type already saved on existing people — it only changes the options offered going forward. Adding new types is always safe.
Work locations
The list of locations offered by the Location field when you schedule a shift (for example Reception, Dive Center, Boat, Restaurant). It's one shared list used across all departments. Add or remove entries here; on a shift you can still type a one-off location that isn't in the list.
Shift types
The reusable shifts staff can be put on. Each has a name and a start and end time (for example Morning 07:00–15:00). Picking a shift type in the schedule dialog fills in those times automatically; choosing Custom there lets you enter times by hand instead.
Required staff per shift
A grid of departments (rows) × shift types (columns) where you enter how many people each department needs on each shift. These targets drive the roster's coverage chips — a day shows {n} short when it falls below them, and {n} on when it's covered.
Public holidays
A list of your public holidays (a date and a name). These are informational markers shown on the roster's day headers so planners can see holidays at a glance; they don't block scheduling.
Assign employees
A quick way to set department membership in bulk: each person is listed with toggle chips for every department. Turn chips on/off to add or remove someone from a department without opening their full profile. (The first department a person is in is their primary one — set on their Team profile.)
Who can access this
Requires the Shift configuration permission to view and change these settings (assigning departments to people uses the employee-edit right). Visible when the Shift Plan module is active.
